“Engineering on the move”: the MAIRE Historical Archive goes on display as part of Milano MuseoCity 2026
NEWSThe new edition of Milano MuseoCity 2026 kicked off on 21 January 2026 with a press conference; we have decided to take part in the initiative with a special exhibition of materials from the MAIRE Historical Archive, bringing to life the engineering behind some iconic sporting venues.
In the year that the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games turned the spotlight on Milan, the Fondazione MAIRE – ETS has chosen to take part in Milano MuseoCity 2026 by opening to the public a treasure that has been kept under wraps for decades: the materials from the MAIRE Historical Archive. The aim is to tell the story of the design of iconic venues that have transformed the relationship between people, the local area and sporting activities.
The theme chosen for this edition of Milano MuseoCity, “Cultural Enterprises”, sought to highlight the synergy between sport and art; so we chose to revisit, through sketches, vintage photographs and designs, the engineering behind what have become iconic sporting venues in Italy and around the world. The added touch? Their history.
Through the beauty and precision of drawing, engineering reveals itself as a cultural expression capable of shaping landscapes, societies and the collective imagination; “Engineering on the move” stages a dialogue between the past and the future.
Don’t miss this chance: from 27 February to 5 March at the MAIRE Group headquarters in the Torri Garibaldi in Milan (Via Gaetano del Castillia, 6A Milan 20124 MI), you can book a one-hour guided tour (in Italian or English) to experience “Engineering on the move: sports venues from MAIRE Historical Archive”.
