THE ENERGY TRANSITION BELONGS TO THE YOUTH: WITH MAIREmpower, WE SUPPORT THEIR STUDIES AND THEIR DREAMS!
MAIREmpower is a social impact training project designed to combat educational poverty and actively contribute to the development of the new multidisciplinary skills needed to implement the energy transition. How? By providing equitable access, as well as financial and motivational support, to university education for students from fragile or highly vulnerable socioeconomic backgrounds.
The project will run for five years and consists of three phases.
Phase I of the project involves organizing training and orientation sessions (each lasting 3 hours or more, including activities and quizzes to engage the audience) for the 12th-grade classes at each school that applies for/is selected under the call for proposals—including high schools and technical institutes.
Phase II of the project involves organizing a summer school for a select group of students chosen from among the Phase I participants: a residential, immersive experience aimed at developing technical and soft skills, which takes place during the summer between their senior year and their final year of high school. Phase II also includes a mentoring program for these same students, which takes place during their final year of high school with regular sessions, to further develop their skills and support them in their post-diploma decisions; at the end of Phase II, scholarship recipients for Phase III are selected.
Phase III of the project involves awarding scholarships for bachelor’s degrees in STEM fields to students selected from among the participants in Phase II; in this phase as well, students will receive mentoring support until they earn their degrees.
The project’s objectives include:
• Developing skills for the energy transition;
• Providing equitable access to educational opportunities for young people from marginalized or vulnerable backgrounds;
• Offering financial and motivational support;
• Combating educational poverty.
The first edition of the project (2024–2029) was launched in Rome in June 2024, and Phase III of the initiative is currently underway.
The second edition of the project (2026–2031) is in the launch phase in the city of Catania.
