Our conference was held in Rome on October 13, 2025, to present the research report and the “TRAIETTORIE” project, a multi-year initiative that aims to promote the inclusion of migrants in the energy transition sector through training.

Seeing the energy transition as an opportunity: not only for the young generations of students who attend our training courses, but also to promote the inclusion of women and minorities in a sector that is still predominantly characterized by a gender gap (with a clear male employment majority) and gender stereotypes.

In particular, with the call for research grants on “migration flows and energy transition” launched in July 2024, we aimed to investigate the possibilities, pathways, and global scenario for generating social and labor inclusion of migrants in the energy transition sector. We funded eight studies through research grants, conducted by five researchers (Angelique Witjes, Antonio Umberto Mosetti, Carla Ventre, Cecilia Fortunato, Luigi Campaniello) and three associations (Next - Nuova Economia per Tutti, TBB - Talent Beyond Boundaries, and Fondazione AVSI - ETS) - in order to highlight the state of the art, critical issues, and strengths, with the ultimate goal of creating ad hoc training courses to integrate foreign skills, migrants, and refugees into this fabric.

The main findings of the studies were summarized in the report “TRAIETTORIE. Flussi migratori, competenze e transizione energetica” [currently available only in Italian, it will soon be translated into English] and presented at an institutional conference held in Rome on October 13, 2025, at the Chamber of Commerce, Sala del Tempio di Vibia Sabina e Adriano (Piazza di Pietra), also attended by Minister of the Interior Matteo Piantedosi.

Our Director General Ilaria Catastini presented the Foundation and the broader project underlying this conference, while Prof. Andrea Billi of Sapienza University of Rome, a former member of the Foundation's Board of Directors, illustrated the findings of the studies and coordinated the research projects.

Following this, the discussion was left to representatives from the sector: Roberto Sommella, Director of Milano Finanza, moderated a round table enriched by Chiara Cardoletti, UNHCR Representative for Italy, the Holy See, and San Marino; Fabrizio Gallo, President of the National Commission for the Right of Asylum; Massimiliano Musmeci, Senior Expert at ANCE; Mohamed Saady, National Secretary of Fai Cisl, expert in migration policies; Salvatore Sortino, Director of the Coordination Office for the Mediterranean, International Organization for Migration (IOM).

Our President Fabrizio Di Amato closed the conference, commenting: "The business world is experiencing a particular shortage of certain professional skills. The energy transition sector needs trained people now and increasingly in the future: migrants and refugees can be a precious resource, especially if they are included in specific job corridor programs. Companies need to invest in targeted training and inclusion projects that involve their stakeholders as part of their sustainability strategies, and they need support to do this. We have launched, as a Group, a program that provides for the entry of 100 new professionals each year, attracted and trained through our network of competence centers, among whom we plan to train a share of migrants and refugees as well. I propose to establish an implementation group with institutional and associative stakeholders willing to support us in this journey."
