IN-GENIUM ARRIVES IN TROINA (ENNA): MAIRE'S PHOTOGRAPHY PROJECT ON THE PAST AND FUTURE OF ENGINEERING REACHES EASTERN SICILY, CELEBRATING CULTURE, EDUCATION AND INNOVATION
PRESS RELEASE- Following Rome, Milan and Catania, the "in-genium" exhibition, produced with Fondazione MAIRE – ETS and young photographers from the Academies of Fine Arts, makes its first stop in Troina (province of Enna), in the Nebrodi area. The initiative was launched by the Istituto Omnicomprensivo "Don Bosco – E. Majorana", in collaboration with the Municipality.
- The works are on show in the Sala Grande of the Norman Torre Capitania, alongside the archaeological collections of the city's museum complex.
- The exhibition will be open to the public until 18 December 2026, with a full programme of cultural events and an orientation pathway for students. This is made possible by the School-Work Training agreement to be signed by the Istituto Omnicomprensivo and Fondazione MAIRE – ETS.
Troina (Enna), 16 October 2026 – The photography exhibition "in-genium. Perspectives on the Past and Future of Technology" opened today in the Sala Grande of the Torre Capitania in Troina (Enna). It is promoted by MAIRE and Fondazione MAIRE – ETS, in collaboration with the Colosseum Archaeological Park and the Academies of Fine Arts of Catania, Rome and Milan, and is inspired by the innovative vision of MAIRE's founder and Chairman, Fabrizio Di Amato. Through the language of photography, the project introduces younger generations to the values of engineering, research and the human ability to transform the world while respecting resources and communities. After its stops in Rome, Milan and Catania, the exhibition arrives in eastern Sicily for the first time, bringing the themes of engineering, technological innovation and the energy transition to the region's young people.
The exhibition grew out of an artist residency in Rome, coordinated by Carmelo Nicosia, Director of the School of Photography at the Academy of Fine Arts of Catania. Students and faculty from the Academies of Brera, Rome and Catania explored some of the most iconic sites of ancient engineering, from the Domus Aurea to the underground chambers of the Colosseum. Six keywords that define an engineer's work – design, measure, channel, mix, lift, reuse – guide visitors in considering how the technical expertise of the past continues to inform today's technological solutions.
The Troina stop opened with a seminar attended by school institutions, the city administration and local cultural and community organisations. It was launched at the initiative of the Istituto Omnicomprensivo Statale "Don Bosco – E. Majorana" and the Municipality. Located in the heart of the Nebrodi and at the crossroads of the provinces of Enna, Messina and Catania, Troina is a reference point for hundreds of students in the area and has developed a vibrant cultural scene, rich in cross-influences.Sede Legale: Viale Castello della Magliana, 27, 00148 Roma, Italia T +39 06 412235300 F +39 06412235610 Capitale Sociale € 19.920.679,32, i.v. The in-genium installation enters into dialogue with the permanent collections and with the nearby Robert Capa Museum, dedicated to the pioneering and celebrated war photographer who documented the Battle of Troina. Together they form an integrated itinerary of photography, art and innovation.
Throughout the exhibition, a full programme of cultural events and an orientation pathway are planned for lower and upper secondary school students. Third-, fourth- and fifth-year classes are directly involved, with guided tours and dedicated activities that also earn school credits. As part of the event, Fondazione MAIRE – ETS will sign a School-Work Training (FSL) agreement with the Institute, setting out, together with the school, the objectives, activities and terms of student participation. The agreement will also mark the start of a collaboration with MAIRE and Fondazione MAIRE – ETS, including meetings with experts, orientation activities, workshops and pathways on STEM and STEAM, sustainability, the energy transition and the professions of the future.
The agreement is part of Fondazione MAIRE – ETS's broader commitment to young people, which also includes its membership of the Observatory for Combating School Dropout in the province of Catania.
Carlo Nicolais, Vice President Institutional Relations, Communication & Sustainability at MAIRE, commented: "With the Troina stop, in-genium stays true to its mission: bringing technical culture to where it can make the greatest difference for new generations. Working with the school, the municipal administration and the area's cultural organisations allows us to give young people in inland areas a concrete opportunity to discover the professions of engineering and the energy transition. It also brings them into contact with history and the humanities, which shape the humanist engineer we believe in. It further strengthens our ties with Sicily, which MAIRE has chosen as a place to work, thanks to the Group's engineering hub in Catania."
