On 26 March 2026, the Italian Embassy in Berlin hosted the presentation of the first research paper of “Climate Goals – Addendum 3”, which focuses on Germany.

The “Climate Goals” survey, sponsored by the MAIRE Group and conducted by Ipsos Italia, is now in its fourth edition, with a European focus covering Germany, the Netherlands and Poland – bringing the total number of countries surveyed to 17, based on 2,850 interviews. The study examines, at a global level, the perceived need and urgency regarding the implementation of the energy transition and, within this, the role of training in the new skills required.

This year, a single in-depth paper is dedicated to each new country. We begin with Addendum 3: Focus on Germany.

The survey reveals a country that stands out for its high level of awareness regarding the energy transition, which is perceived as both an environmental necessity and an industrial evolution, requiring immediate efforts; a path that is not without obstacles to overcome (structural and infrastructural). Central to this is a ‘tripartite’ governance model, involving the joint participation of politicians, private industry, and citizens; in this scenario, private companies are recognised as the main drivers of operational progress.

Globally, however, the 2026 results of the study confirm nevertheless the perception that the true engine of the energy transition has shifted away from Europe. Emerging economies are prioritizing the transition as a top-down national mission, sustained by high levels of investment and strong public confidence.

The main findings of the research were presented on 26 March 2026 at the Italian Embassy in Berlin during an event that brought together representatives from government bodies, industry and energy sector experts; it served as a fruitful forum for discussion on Europe’s path towards climate neutrality, and provided an opportunity for the MAIRE Group to share its European strategy, which is specifically focused on the host country.

The event opened with an official address by H.E. Fabrizio Bucci, the Italian Ambassador to Germany, who emphasised the importance of combining innovation, sustainability and industrial competitiveness in Europe’s journey towards climate neutrality.

Our Director General, Ilaria Catastini, then presented the key findings of the new research, highlighting how, globally, the centre of gravity of the energy transition is gradually shifting towards emerging economies, where the transition is increasingly seen as a national mission supported by investment and public confidence.

The discussion continued with a round-table discussion, moderated by the journalist Maarten van Aalderen, former president of the Foreign Press Association in Rome, and attended by Robert Grimm, Managing Director, Ipsos Germany; Lucretia Löscher, Energy & Plant Engineering Executive & Board Member, Strategy & AI Expert; Giuseppe Sachero, Vice President Industrial Solutions, Siemens Energy; Giovanni Sale, Senior Vice President Corporate and Business Strategy, MAIRE Group.

The event was brought to a close by Fabrizio Di Amato, Chairman and founder of the MAIRE Group and the Fondazione MAIRE – ETS, who emphasised the central role of expertise, technological innovation and dialogue between the public and private sectors in effectively tackling the climate challenge.

The event also provided an opportunity to reaffirm the MAIRE Group’s commitment to the cultural and artistic sphere, with the opening of a photographic exhibition dedicated to the artist Antonio Pauciulo.
