In London to discuss circular complexity: for the first time in the classrooms of the Francis Holland School
NEWSOur training course on circular complexity took place on 12 June 2026 in London: for the first time, the Francis Holland School in Sloane Square opened the doors of its classrooms to the Fondazione MAIRE – ETS and the MAIRE Group to meet young female students interested in the subject.
Whilst it is true that climate change is the most complex of today’s challenges, it is all the more necessary for the younger generations to begin to understand its nature, its consequences and, above all, the means of mitigating it as soon as possible.
Thus, our colleagues from the Foundation and MAIRE Group’s Sustainability departments flew to London to meet a group of very young Year 12 pupils at the prestigious Francis Holland School in Sloane Square; a class of 16 pupils – who specialise in chemistry and the sciences – who had expressed an interest in the subjects on offer.
A morning of training dedicated to the themes of sustainability, circularity and complexity, following a brief introduction and presentation of the lecturers, the Foundation and the Group. Lectures were interspersed with practical and interactive exercises to engage the students; there were also opportunities for direct discussion. The young women were able to explore how these concepts – sustainability, climate change and circularity – although they may seem distant and intangible, are reflected in the dynamics of everyday life. Circular complexity was broken down and simplified to make it accessible and tangible.
These steps are essential for equipping the younger generation with the tools to make more responsible, environmentally conscious choices in their daily lives. The workshop also fostered a greater awareness of the interconnections between systems, decisions and context, making the topic accessible and tangible. It was an experience that stimulated curiosity, critical thinking and active participation among the students.
An all-female team – an enriching experience for us too, which we hope to repeat as soon as possible! A heartfelt thank you to the School, the teachers and the students who threw themselves into the experience with such enthusiasm and curiosity!
